Wheel excavators are different from their tracked cousins in that they are more suitable for smaller scale projects. The wheels mean these machines cannot sustain heavier weights and thus the equipment’s house has to scale down to fit these requirements. To make up for this disadvantage, wheel excavators are far more mobile. The wheels allow for faster travel on roads and flat surfaces. This is what makes them more suitable for residential, commercial and road projects.

The wheel excavator’s comparatively lightweight design makes for easier handling and quicker movements, making this type of excavator more maneuverable and efficient if there isn’t much to work on. Cabled buckets are also more prominent in wheel excavators. Again, this is because of the fact that they are smaller machines.

Smaller wheel excavators also usually allow for a dozer blade bucket to be attached to its back. This makes it function as a loader as well.
